Theory and Practice of new Music and Sound Art

On 15th of January Labor-Linz starts its activity with a permanent workshop about Computer Music. This workshop covers the theory and application of new and existing technologies in music, such as sound synthesis, digital signal processing, sound design, sonic diffusion, acoustics, and psychoacoustics. In particular we will learn:

  • Computer Assisted Composition (CAC)
  • Real Time Interaction with acoustic instruments or voice
  • Synchronized performance with audio and video
  • Sensors Inferfaces and MIDI surfaces.
  • Theory of composition of electroacoustic and contemporary music
  • Practice of Sound Art and Sound Installation
  • Digital Audio Processing (Convolution, Spectral Morphing…), Synthesis (Granular, FM…) and Modulation (Ring, FM…)
  • Spatialization of sound and multichannel sound works.
  • Use of studio tools: Audio Editors, Sequencers and Visual Flow Programming languajes (Max/MSP and Pure Data) as well as Mastering Plugins and Techniques
  • Acoustics and Analysis of sound

We will use a methodology based on listening – studying – practice, open to all aesthetics and ways of exploration. Classes include printed documentation, scores and free software.

About the Course

8 hours/month

First Group: Fridays 18:30-20:30 starting in 15th January 2010

Price: 80 euro/month

All the classes will be taught in English by the international composer and sound artist Enrique Tomás []

The workshop will be held in Labor Für Elektroakustische Musik und Neue Medien Linz, in Fadingerstr. 11 (close to OK Platz).

What is Labor Für Elektroakustische Musik und Neue Medien Linz?

Labor-Linz is a new self-supported space for the study and difussion of new music and new media. Our mission is promoting activities related with new ways of expression in sound and in art, with the target of connecting physical or virtual communities of people interested in our field.

We will open in January 2010 with a workshop.  More activities are coming.
